The Habit of Watching Television in My Village

A little thing that may causes togetherness and brotherhood in a society is always meet each other and also doing some activities together. A kind of an easy activity which is enjoyable is watching Television together in the same place. It will not need any preparation and easy to do. Just come into the place (a home which has a TV) and start watching with another people there. But it was a habit in the society long time ago when I was a child in my village.
Since the first time TV came into my village, there was a new habit. In a certain schedule, there would be a group of people in one of inhabitant house who had a Television for watching such as G30S PKI film, Hollywood film, etc. Parents or children, girls or boy would be pleased to come and join that agenda. Notwithstanding at the earlier of that Televisionwas a newcomer, some of the owner would ask the payment Rp.100 toRp 500 for each watcher/night.In another sense, according to the former of orchard head (Kamarudin 2011): “watching television in the same place gave some benefits while my governance in this village, I could tell the announcement from the government, I  could also know if there were some problem in the society, and I  always took the opportunity to gave some advice to the society there”.
Time goes on, and that habit has been definitely changed. Because of the price of televisions are more cheap and achievable, many of society in my village have bought this one. So, there are no groups of watchers in one place anymore. Moreover, each people can directly watching television from their room. They can watch Television every single moment they want.It is a good idea, because each person does not care about another problem. There will no chance of telling someone’s badness. Television is an inescapable part of modern culture. We depend on TV for entertainment, news, education, culture, weather, sports—and even music, since the advent of music videos (www.media-awareness.ca).As the indirectimpact, Television has given many new cultures in society’s life, such as individual life, new fashion, and lot’s of artists’ style. Those all are entirely taken from many culture in TV’s channel.
Television affects the brain to be passive, decrease the critical thinking skill, and damage the right brain intelligence. The largest impact of Television is shifting away the person’s interest of reading. Eventually, according to the neurologists reading is good for brain intelligence (Rakhmat, 2005, p. 269)
There are many things that we can do than just wasting time for watching. There are many problems in our country that should be solved such as education side, economic side, law side, etc. soI actually strongly agree if watching television in the same place was disappeared and we can spend a lot of time in the beneficial activities in order for helping our country’s development.
